HART VALLEY, NM – On July 11, 2010, at 7:41 p.m., The San Juan County Communications Authority’s 9-1-1 Center started receiving numerous calls for a fire at 4 County Road 3935, in the Hart Valley Fire District. Units from San Juan County District #8 (Hart Valley), District #2 (Flora Vista), and District #6 (Lee Acres) were immediately dispatched. Initial reports indicated that a vehicle was on fire, close to a trailer, and the flames were spreading through nearby bushes.
Fire units arrived on scene to find two, well involved vehicles, as well as a large pile of miscellaneous combustibles on fire. A single-wide mobile home and its LP fuel tank, presented an immediate exposure hazard. Quick action by the first arriving companies lead to the knock down the fire in both vehicles, keeping the tank from becoming involved and the fire extension into the trailer minimal. Units from all three Fire Districts operated into the evening hours overhauling the vehicles and debris pile. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the SJCFD’s Fire Marshal’s Office.
